A New Championship Format Shakes Things Up
The No Prep Elite Championship recently announced a fresh format, and trust us, it’s going to add a lot of excitement to the competition. Previously, it seemed like only the top racers had a real shot at taking home the crown. But with the changes introduced this season, everyone in the top 16 now has a fighting chance.
The first round of races will follow a classic ladder-style format. That means #1 races #16, #2 races #15, #3 races #14, and so on. It’s a head-to-head battle from the get-go, and every round could deliver some surprising upsets.
Here’s where it gets even more interesting: the top 5 racers in the current standings will get bonus points based on their positions. Shawn Ellington (Murder Nova), who’s sitting pretty at #1, is starting with a hefty 50-point advantage. Right behind him, Robin Roberts or JPI (Jerry Bird), whoever claims the third spot between them, will have 30 points, while Ryan Martin starts with 20 points and Justin Swanstrom grabs 10.

This point-based advantage is crucial, but not necessarily a deal-breaker for those trailing behind. Why? Because the format is designed to keep things competitive. Even if you’re not in the top 5, you can still claw your way to the top by performing well in each race. This means everybody has a chance, which definitely spices up the playing field.
Why Change the Format?
The previous structure, with points carrying over as they were, meant that if you weren’t in the top 10 by the end of the season, your hopes of winning were slim to none. But this revamped format opens the door for more racers to fight for the title, making things more exciting for both racers and fans alike.
Under the old system, top racers like Shawn Ellington would have had a major lead, making it tough for lower-ranked competitors to catch up. Now, with the ladder system and new point bonuses, the championship remains wide open until the very end. It’s a high-stakes game, where a few good races (or bad ones) can shake up the leaderboard in a flash.
Upcoming Races: The Pressure is On
With several key races left, the pressure is on. There are still plenty of points up for grabs, especially in the upcoming events at Tulsa, Rockingham, and Steele, Alabama.
Tulsa offers 10 points per round—standard scoring.
Rockingham and Steele events will be worth points and a half, raising the stakes.
The final race of the season will be a double points event, meaning it’s anyone’s game right up to the last race.
That’s what makes this format so thrilling. Even if a top racer like Shawn falters in one race, he could quickly find himself out of the top spot. It’s going to be a high-pressure, high-reward situation where the best of the best need to perform consistently to stay in the running.

The Importance of Consistency
While the new format gives every racer a shot at the title, there’s still one major factor that can’t be ignored—consistency. That’s where someone like Shawn has a slight edge. Even though he’ll be up against tough competitors like Ranken or Nate Saylor, who are incredibly fast, they haven’t been as consistent this season. Consistency is key in this format, especially as the pressure mounts with each round.
Friday Grudge Racing & Race-Offs
Before the main event on Saturday, we’ll get to enjoy some good old Grudge Racing and race-offs on Friday. Racers who are tied in points will face off, and we might see a four-car race-off as well. This gives racers a chance to make up for lost ground and fine-tune their setups before the big day.
These Friday races allow up to four test passes, which should make for an exciting day of racing and a great preview of the intense competition we’ll see on Saturday.
What to Expect from This Season’s Championship
With the new format, bonus points, and high-stakes races coming up, this season’s No Prep Elite Championship is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet. Every racer in the top 16 has the speed and skill to pull off an upset, and the final standings are far from decided.
Here at StreetOutlawsTalks.com, we can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. Will Shawn hold onto his lead and take the championship, or will someone further down the ladder rise up and steal the crown? One thing’s for sure—it’s going to be one heck of a ride!
Let us know in the comments below what you think of the new format. Do you think it levels the playing field, or should the top racers keep their advantage from the regular season? We love hearing from fellow Street Outlaws fans, so don’t be shy!
