The No Prep Kings racing scene is about to heat up as the 2025 Speed Promotions season approaches, and last year’s champion, Shawn Ellington, is ready to defend his title in a big way. With his Murder Nova tuned to perfection, the 187 Customs crew is leaving no stone unturned in their quest for back-to-back championships.

A Look Back at Shawn’s Dominant 2024 Season

Shawn put on an incredible performance last season, winning four events and ultimately clinching the championship. While his car wasn’t necessarily the absolute fastest on the track, its consistency made all the difference. And as every seasoned racer knows, consistency wins championships.

Despite some tough competition, the Murder Nova proved to be one of the most reliable and effective cars on the circuit. Now, with even more preparation under his belt, Shawn is setting his sights on another dominant year.

Stepping Up the Game for 2025

One of the biggest changes for this season is Shawn’s approach to preparedness. Unlike last year, when he started without a spare motor, he now has a full backup engine ready to go, along with a host of spare parts. This means he can push the limits of his setup without worrying about a single failure ruining his championship hopes.

The 2025 season will see a no rules format, which could make things even more exciting. With fewer restrictions, racers will have more room to experiment with setups, and it’ll be interesting to see how Shawn takes advantage of this.

What’s Next for the Murder Nova?

Speculation is already swirling about what changes Shawn might make to his combination. Will he opt for the 144 ProCharger? Will he experiment with a lockup converter, similar to what he has used on the OG Murder Nova with radials? Could we even see a dual power adder setup, combining nitrous with the ProCharger?

At an estimated weight of 2,750 pounds with Shawn in the car, the Murder Nova is well within the competitive range for NPK, where most boosted cars weigh between 2,700 and 2,750 pounds without added weight. While some of the lighter cars, especially those with smaller drivers, may have a slight advantage, Shawn’s setup and driving skill more than make up for any weight difference.

The Road Ahead

With only seven races determining the 2025 championship, every event is going to count. Shawn and the 187 Customs team are coming into this season better prepared than ever, with the Murder Nova ready to take on whatever the competition throws at it.

Can he secure another championship? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure—Shawn Ellington is not going down without a fight.
