As we gear up for the U.S. Street Nationals, the anticipation is electric. Shawn Ellington, known and loved by fans as Murder Nova, is ready to take the wheel of Kye Kelley’s ProMod in what promises to be a fierce competition. The car has already fired up and, as of now, is either at the dyno or scheduled to hit it within the next few days. Testing is right around the corner, and excitement is building fast.
The ProMod Beast: A Closer Look
Let’s talk specs. This ProMod is built to impress, featuring a ProLine 564 cubic-inch HEMI engine paired with twin turbochargers. Specifically, it’s equipped with 88mm turbos—a shift from the previous 98mm setup. Despite the smaller turbos, this beast generates an astounding 5,000+ horsepower.
For context, this setup mirrors the one used by Mark Micke, who consistently qualifies at the top of ProMod races. Micke’s combination is capable of outrageous speeds, such as 217 mph on an eighth-mile pass—a full 10 mph faster than competing screw-blown or ProCharger-equipped cars. This speaks volumes about the performance potential of Shawn’s ProMod.

A Car Built for Victory
What makes this ProMod so exciting isn’t just the numbers—it’s the potential for it to dominate on the track. With the right setup and a solid track surface, this car is a serious contender for the top qualifying spot. Mark Micke recently qualified with a 3.59-second run at the Snowbird Nationals, and this twin-turbo combination has shown time and again that it thrives in ideal conditions.
While twin-turbo setups might not always shine in the No Prep Kings (NPK) series, where the rules and track conditions vary, the U.S. Street Nationals provide the perfect platform to unleash the full potential of this car.
Shawn Ellington: Ready to Take the Wheel
For Shawn, this race is an opportunity to prove what this car—and his driving—are capable of. While his NPK Murder Nova struggled with weight issues that kept it from being competitive, this ProMod is a different story. Unlike his NPK car, which couldn’t get down to the necessary weight, this new build has all the right components to be a top-tier contender.

It’s worth noting that other drivers, like Robin Roberts, faced similar challenges in the NPK series due to weight restrictions. However, Kye Kelley’s lightweight and highly competitive car setup allowed him to claim victories and qualify well. Now, with Shawn behind the wheel of this ProMod, all eyes are on him to see if he can do the same.
What to Expect at the U.S. Street Nationals
Testing for the U.S. Street Nationals is just around the corner, and it’s clear that this team is leaving nothing to chance. They’re dialing in every detail to ensure this car is race-ready. With Shawn Ellington’s experience and the car’s incredible specs, it’s shaping up to be an exciting showdown.
This ProMod has everything it needs to not only qualify at the top but also win it all. The combination of raw power, advanced engineering, and Shawn’s skill behind the wheel makes this car one to watch.
