Justin Swanstrom has always been a major player in the No Prep Kings (NPK) scene, bringing excitement and a dedicated fan base to every event he entered. But now, his former NPK car—his screw-blown 1967 Mustang, known as "Outdated"—is going small tire. This move marks a big shift for Swanstrom and has fans wondering what’s next for the popular racer.

Why the Switch?

Initially, Outdated was built to compete in NPK Season 8 (now rebranded under Speed Promotions). However, after Speed Promotions cut him from the contract, Swanstrom decided to step away from the series. This decision sparked plenty of debate, as many fans (ourselves included) believe Speed Promotions made a huge mistake. Swanstrom is a proven crowd favorite, consistently bringing multiple cars and thrilling action to every race. Losing him is a big blow to the series, and it's understandable why so many followers are upset about it.

What’s the Plan for Outdated?

Now that Swanstrom is out of NPK, his 1967 Mustang is undergoing a transformation to compete in small tire racing. The car is expected to be set up for either Pro 275 or No Time 275—both highly competitive and rapidly growing classes in the drag racing world.

For those keeping track, Swanstrom already has two other No Time 275 cars, plus Todd Fain’s car, which is also heavily associated with his Swang Gang team. With Outdated joining the mix, he’ll have even more firepower in the small tire world.

Will We See Outdated in Action Soon?

That’s the big question. Many fans, including us, hope Swanstrom runs Outdated in Pro 275 so we can see some solid numbers from the car. Its sinister black appearance, paired with a screw-blown Hemi, makes it one of the meanest-looking Mustangs in the game. It would be a shame if it just sits or gets sold off.

While a lot of his other builds are focused on No Time racing, Pro 275 would offer something fresh for Justin and allow him to showcase Outdated’s potential in a class with strict but exciting limitations.

What About Other Racing Opportunities?

Another interesting possibility could have been the No Time Kings series that Jim Howe is putting together. However, since there’s no finalized schedule for that yet, it’s unclear if Outdated will find a home there.

Regardless of where it lands, we’re hoping Swanstrom keeps Outdated and gives it some serious track time. It’s a beautiful car, a fan favorite, and a piece of his racing legacy.

Final Thoughts

While it’s disappointing that Swanstrom won’t be in Speed Promotions’ NPK series, he’s far from done in the racing world. His ability to stay relevant, adapt, and dominate in multiple formats is exactly why he remains one of the most talked-about drivers in the game.

What do you think about Outdated’s small tire transformation? Do you think it’ll be a force in Pro 275, or do you think it belongs somewhere else? Let us know in the comments!
