Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting update on Street Outlaws Talk! Today, we’re diving into an impressive performance by none other than Jim Howe, who has made headlines by going deep into the 3.70s with his No Prep Kings (NPK) legal trim car. Let’s get into the details!

Jim Howe’s Remarkable Performance
In the world of NPK, drivers are notoriously secretive about their times. Most racers will share 60-foot or 330-foot times, and some might reveal their mile-per-hour speeds, but it’s rare to see anyone openly post a full time slip. Jim Howe, however, is breaking the mold. Not only is he one of the fastest in NPK, but he’s also transparent about his performance.
Recently, Jim Howe was racing against a Pro Mod at Milan Dragway, and his results were nothing short of spectacular. During a test pass on Friday, straight off the trailer on a prep track, Howe clocked a 3.73 with a 7 at 203 mph in 2400 feet of air. While the air conditions weren’t perfect, he still managed an impressive speed and time.
Built for No Prep, Thriving on Prep
It’s important to note that Howe’s car is built specifically for no prep racing. The weight distribution, chassis setup, and overall build are optimized for the unique conditions of NPK tracks. Despite this, his car performed exceptionally well on a fully prepped track—a testament to the car’s versatility and Howe’s tuning prowess.

Consistent and Transparent Performance
Jim Howe’s transparency doesn’t stop at his impressive times. He’s also open about his incremental times, something virtually unheard of in NPK. For example, during one of his passes, he hit a 0.919 to the 60-foot and 2.47 to the 330-foot mark. Although he aborted this pass after the 330-foot mark, calculations suggest that he was on track for a 3.69 run.
On the second pass against the Pro Mod, Howe completed the race with a 3.71 at 202 mph, demonstrating near 60s performance under NPK legal conditions. These times are not only impressive but also showcase the car’s potential to consistently hit low 3.70s and even dip into the 3.60s.
Pushing the Limits within NPK Rules
What makes Howe’s performance even more remarkable is that he’s achieving these times under strict NPK rules. Without these restrictions, his car could utilize a higher overdrive percentage, potentially pushing speeds beyond 210 mph and significantly lowering his times. Even within the confines of NPK regulations, Howe’s ability to approach the 3.60s is a testament to his skill and the car’s engineering.

Conclusion
Jim Howe is proving to be a formidable force in the NPK series. His willingness to share his performance details and his car’s impressive capabilities make him a standout in the no prep community. We’re eager to see how he continues to push the boundaries and set new benchmarks in the upcoming races.
