How Much Richard Rawlings Made By Selling His Entire Car Collection

Richard Rawlings, the famous classic car collector and the Gas Monkey Garage owner surprised everyone when he revealed that he plans to sell his entire car collection in an upcoming auction. Richard's announcement was exciting, and the reason behind it even more so. He intends to replace his existing car collection, mostly confined to modified and cool classic cars, with more expensive and exclusive models from premium brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, and Lamborghini.

This massive sale of 29 cars took place on Bring A Trailer auction website, and each listing was closed one after the other on September 14th, 2022. Here is everything you need to know about it.

Unique Classic Cars From The Massive Gas Monkey Auction

1959 Chevy Corvette Sports Timeless Looks, Modern V8

The Gas Monkey Garage collection that went up for auction was pretty extensive. The 1959 Chevrolet Corvette went for $42,250 in this auction. It had a replacement 350 cubic inch V8 engine, a three-speed automatic transmission, and 55,000 miles on the odometer. However, this was not the only Corvette in Richard's collection. A similar example of the model year 1962, in a better condition and a 327 cubic inch V8, went for $60,000.

1966 Ford Mustang GT Coupe 289 4-Speed

Another classic American muscle car that was part of this auction was a 1966 Ford Mustang GT Coupe. 1979 Porsche 928

Richard Rawlings' classic car collection also had a few models from European manufacturers. Such as a 1976 Jaguar XJ 12L Series II Sedan and a 1979 Porsche 928. While the Jaguar managed to go for just $10,750, the Porsche brought home a respectable $46,000 in this auction.

Richard Rawlings Also Gave Away Trucks, Choppers, And Hotrods

Several trucks were also a part of this massive Gas Monkey Garage auction. The list included a 1987 Chevrolet R30 Chassis Cab Utility Truck, a modified 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4x4, a 1957 Ford F-100, and a 1976 Ford F-250 Ranger XLT Super Cab 4x4. These went for $11,500, $32,500, $7,700, and $31,750, respectively.

Custom Harley-Davidson Panhead Chopper

Besides cars and trucks, Richard Rawlings also has a special place in his heart for custom-built choppers. His collection included an Easyrider Custom Chopper and a Custom Harley-Davidson Panhead Chopper. They were also auctioned and brought home $44,444 and $24,999, respectively.

The Gas Monkey Garage's car collection would be incomplete without a few hotrods, and so would this auction. Richard decided to sell his 1932 Ford 5-Window Coupe Hot Rod in this auction, and the highest bid received for this was $55,000. The iconic Ford Model T Custom Hot Rod, also known as the 'King T,' was also a part of the listing and went for $75,000.

The Winners, The Losers, And The Best Deals

1993 Toyota Supra Turbo

There were some winners and losers in this auction. The biggest winner, of course, was Richard Rawlings. But, regarding the cars that went up for sale, a few managed to crank up huge returns, while some brought home not-so-great value.

1957 Ford F-100 3-Speed

car that got the highest bid was the 1993 Toyota Supra Turbo, with just 16,000 miles on its odometer. It sold for an impressive $121,000. On the other hand, the 1957 Ford F-100, which was not in excellent condition to begin with, sold for just $7,700, the least of the entire lot. However, for Richard, the F-100 and the Ford Model T 'King T', and the Panhead were among some great deals.

Richard Rawlings Made Over $1 Million From The Famous Auction

The main reason Richard Rawlings decided to sell his entire car collection was simple. He wanted to update his current flock of cars with new and exclusive models. And hence, he plans to use the money gained from this auction to fulfill this dream. Most of the cars from his collection sold for a decent sum, earning him an impressive $1,080,903. But then, Richard's total profit will be determined after he factors in the money spent on buying and restoring these cars.
